"A breathtaking journey."
HET PAROOL - ON THE WASTE LANDFarokhzad Layegh (b. 1963, Shiraz) is an Iranian composer and senior interventional cardiologist whose music brings Persian musical heritage into dialogue with contemporary Western composition. Movements from his string quartet cycle *Sus-Septed Tempus* have been performed by Amsterdam Sinfonietta, which also produced *Sus-Septed Tempus V* as a music film. His 2021 work *Lexolalia Descenticum*, inspired by the centenary of T. S. Eliot’s *The Waste Land* and conceived in dialogue with the poetry of Ahmad Shamlou, became a musical point of departure for *The Waste Land (Het barre land)*, a major interdisciplinary production by Amsterdam Sinfonietta and ISH Dance Collective, presented across the Netherlands and at the 2025 Hong Kong Arts Festival.

Get ready for an unforgettable fusion of explosive music, hip-hop, and acrobatic dance with the Asian premiere of The Waste Land, a bold collaboration between the acclaimed Amsterdam Sinfonietta and ISH Dance Collective. Inspired by T.S. Eliot’s iconic poem, this stunning performance brings together hip-hop dancers, breakers, and aerial acrobats with classical musicians to reflect on a world in ruins and the search for hope amid chaos. The production features a powerful lineup of music by composers like Stravinsky, Arvo Pärt, Michael Nyman, Fazil Say, and Iranian composer Farokhzad Layegh, whose work adds a unique resonance to this genre-defying show....
