Farokhzad Layegh (b. 1963, Shiraz) is an Iranian composer and senior interventional cardiologist whose music brings Persian musical heritage into dialogue with contemporary Western composition. Movements from his string quartet cycle *Sus-Septed Tempus* have been performed by Amsterdam Sinfonietta, which also produced *Sus-Septed Tempus V* as a music film. His 2021 work *Lexolalia Descenticum*, inspired by the centenary of T. S. Eliot’s *The Waste Land* and conceived in dialogue with the poetry of Ahmad Shamlou, became a musical point of departure for *The Waste Land (Het barre land)*, a major interdisciplinary production by Amsterdam Sinfonietta and ISH Dance Collective, presented across the Netherlands and at the 2025 Hong Kong Arts Festival.
